Description
Toccata for Piano Opus 56
Completed in September, 2021, Toccata Op. 56 was the first in a series of concert piano works written for professional pianists in Pittsburgh. The work is dedicated to pianist Mark Carver who gave the premiere performance at the Schultz, Faigen & Friends III concert in Pittsburgh on March 23, 2024. Fast paced, powerful and exciting, Toccata unfolds with prominent use of a 5/8 metric scheme and a recurring one-measure rhythmic motive in eighth notes. The writing is contemporary, bold, and dramatic with seamless connections to contrasting sections that never lose the energized momentum from the first note to the last. Toccata makes an exciting addition or encore to any concert program. This edition is edited by the composer and Tina Faigen.
