Description

Finale for 1 Piano – 4 Hands Op. 47

Written in 2015, this 8-minute concert showpiece is a dramatic and powerful work that utilizes the full resources of the piano and requires piano duo artistry of the highest level. The work was premiered in April 2019 at Chatham University in Pittsburgh by pianists Tina Faigen and Walter Morales.

Finale opens with a burst of energy led by a surging octave line in the Primo that leads directly to the primary theme. [A] The work maintains its momentum throughout as new themes and colorful sections appear to engage the listener and challenge both pianists. Nearing the end, a dramatic crescendo leads to the Presto coda at which point the opening theme returns as the music races to its fiery conclusion.
